I realized today how often it is the little things that you remember. Our book club read a book about the history of the Comanche. They spent a lot of time camping in Palo Duro canyon in the Texas panhandle. I grew up in that area and often spent time crawling around in the caves and splashing in the creek there and so the book created all kinds of memories I thought long forgotten.
One other place mentioned in the book was the Wichita mountains in the SW part of Oklahoma. I spent part of my early adulthood there and met Cowboy at Ft. Sill. We went out to the mountains on about our second time together and drove to the top of Mt. Scott. Cowboy picked a wildflower and put it in my hair. He has always been kind of a silly romantic that way and one of the things that endears him to me. I remember the rocks were covered with lichen and the lichen was covered with ladybugs. We had such a great time that day.
Today when I went to see him we sat out outside and watched several birds taking a bath in a puddle from the rains last night. He was so enthralled and enjoying it so much, it reminded me of how he loves such things and enjoys just watching the world go by..
I had lunch today with some folks from the neighborhood at a place called the "Dead Fish Grill". It was in a town near where Cowboy is so I had lunch with friends and then drove on over to see him. Beautiful weather. We sat outside most of the time I was there. He walked some but he seems to be having more and more difficulty getting around.
The bird feeder I put out is finally attracting birds. I think the little guys there today were wrens, small brown and really quite svelte. They definitely were enjoying the sunflower seeds.
I have a picture of Cowboy that I took during that courtship period. I have sitting next to my computer and look at it every day. He was one handsome guy.
Still have to clean the patio. Maybe tomorrow......
