Thursday, December 6

Have been working on my "to do list" this week.  Have edited the Christmas card list, handled a pile of mail. etc/  Spent 44 minutes on hold with VA over getting check set up direct deposit, only to be told to go on the web, print off a form, fill it out and mail it in.  Only way to handle since I am a "payee" for Cowboy.  Good old paperwork in someone's inbasket.  So modern and efficient, don't you think?

Had my day out yesterday.   Went to the Bed, Bath and Beyond looking for a parafin bath for my; hands.  They didn't have it but ordered it for me so will have in a few days.  Went to mall.  Always try to do that at least once during the holiday season just to soak up some atmosphere.  Got as far as Macy's and the food court and realized had to go so had time to buy groceries.

Today I got a call from the home.  They have a private room available but must act quickly to secure it for Cowboy.  May be months, even years before one becomes available again.  I really think Cowboy will be much happier in a private room.  He is not a social person and may be stressed sharing a space with someone not of his choosing.  I called and moved up his doctor's appointment and labs.  We have to get all the paperwork to them ASAP.

I called Blue Cross about our long term care insurance.  A private room will run about $1500 more than what the VA will pay for but the insurance will cover the difference.  I would have sworn they told me about $500 more when I was in there a few months back but apparently I was wrong.  I will have to front the first three months and then should have things covered.

About the time I finished doing those things I just broke down.  I was crying and couldn't stop.  It just kind of reaches up and grabs me sometimes.  I called a friend who came down and I had a drink and just talked for while.  It helped a lot.

Cowboy got up this morning about 2AM.  I realized it when I heard the TV blaring.  He couldn't get the channels changed and just kept upping the volume.  I came into the living room and he said "Good morning !".  He was dressed and thought it was time to be up.  I managed to coax him to go to the front room, set the TV for him,  gave him a blanket and went back to bed.  Like to have never gone back to sleep.  Later I hear the TV in the living room again.  Thankfully it was about 7AM so I got up and fixed coffee, etc. He didn't seem to have any idea he had been up for 5 hours.
