Wednesday, December 19

We got up this morning, had a good breakfast and drove to the nursing home.  Got there about 10 minutes early but didn't have to wait at all.  Had an interview with a social worker, the head of nursing and a tour by the business manager.  We got to see the room.  It has a complete bath but I was assured he would always have an aide to help with his bath.

Cowboy got really shaky about half way down the hall on the tour so we got him a wheelchair and rolled him around.  The room is very nice, not a bad size and appears to have enough storage.

It was suggested we not bring anything valuable because sometimes things disappear.  They have even had TV's removed.

There is a nice outside area that is secure and the dog is welcome, but need to bring her papers for them.

I then took Cowboy to lunch at Cracker Barrel.  As we were coming out he got weak again so I was helping him to the car.  A lady saw us and came over and took his arm.  I went ahead to get the car open and he was about to fall.  A man saw us and came over to help.  Between him and the lady they were trying to move him along much faster than he can walk and ended up kind of dragging him.  I suggested they slow down and we got him to the car.  Time to go home.

Got a call about 4PM that everything was approved and we made an appointment for 10AM on Friday to do the paperwork and check him in.

I called the girls and let them know.  Then I got a call from one of the grandsons.  He was so sweet.  He was worried that we had "checked this place out really well".  and then he wanted to talk about whether I would be OK alone.  I think I made him feel better.  I told him I have a lovely home in a lovely and very safe area, lots of friends and can fill my time, lots of it just visiting Cowboy so not to worry about me.
