Thursday, May 31

When I changed the erasure board this morning I realized that tomorrow is our anniversary.  Quite frnakly I had given it little thought.  It will be 35 years tomorrow.

Then later today I was reduced to tears.  We received a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates.  It showed to be from Cowboy to me.  I know he didn't do it and am not sure who did.  I suspect it may have been one of the kids.  The roses are lovely, the chocolates devine and the thought wonderful.

I know I have mentioned a few times that I have to buy my own presents now because Cowboy can't do it.  I kind of figure I am set for awhile after my trip and the jewelry I bought.

Come on, fess up.

Wednesday, May 30

A couple of my bandmates came over yesterday and we practiced for a gig at a local day care next week.  It was nice to see them and to play.  It has been several weeks.

Marsha didn't come today.  She had a graduation to go to.  She is coming Friday.  I took Cowboy with me to do a couple of planned errands.  We took some goods to a local charity, mailed some forms in connection with the bank changes, got things changed with our homeowners association, etc.  He just sat in the car but seemed to enjoy getting out.  They were playing old songs on the radio and he was singing along and tapping his knee with his hand.

This afternoon about 3 he said he was going to bed.  I told him it was the middle of the afternoon but he paid no attention, went in and took off his clothes and climbed into bed.  About 5 he got up, got dressed and came in and sat down.  After about 10 minutes he asked "whats for breakfast".  I explained it was coming up on dinnertime and he said he was hungry.

About 6:30, after dinner, he said he was going to bed and went back to bed.

Monday, May 27

Got a call from my grandson on Saturday.  He and Liala have not yet decided on furniture to replace what they are bringing me.  They are shopping over the Memorial Day weekend and hopefully will decide on something.  I am getting a bit anxious.  I want to get this done.

I have been taking it easy the last few days.  Spent a lot of time with the paper yesterday and took a nap.  Cowboy is watching a lot of TV but seems content.

We got up this morning and went to IHOP and then to WalMart.  Got some groceries and some corn patches for his toe.  He is complaining of pain in his toe.  I also spent some time reorganizing some books and things in preparation for the new furniture.  I have this big philademdrun that I don't know what to do with.  Put away some of his little doo dads.  He doesn't seem to care about any of it anymore.

My sister made a pot of beans last week and put some of it in the freezer so am making corn bread and having ham and beans tonight.

Friday, May 25

We went back to the bank this morning to get Cowboy's signature on the new checking account.  Phone calls today to social security and the utilities.  Will make the rest of them next week.  Am feeling like it is coming along but what a mess.

After we finished at the bank we went home and I was looking at the paper.  There is a furniture store going out of business with rugs for 70% off plus another 10%.   I had never been to this particular store and had no idea what they had but it is a nice day and I like to get Cowboy out so off we went.

We came home with a really nice rug to go with the new furniture.  I actually got the salesman to reduce the price even more.  It is wool and silk so will last forever.

We then went to lunch and Cowboy ate really well.  Then home and relaxed.

I think I have recovered from the trip.  Now I am going to spend some time on figuring out how to place and decorate around the new furniture.

Thursday, May 24

Made phone calls all morning and did some on line.  You have to have a password to do anything with social security online and it takes 15 days so I sat on hold about 30 minutes to talk to them.  They told me both our names have to be on the checking account so I have to go back and fix that with the bank.

I love on line banking and having things automatically deducted but it is a real pain to change things.  We will get through it.

We received strawberries from one of our daughters yesterday.  Cowboy will tell you he doesn't like strawberries but he piled into these.  They are large and delicious but who knew.  So we had them for breakfast too.

I am expecting two of my grandsons this weekend with some furniture.  Then I can finally figure out what rug I need, etc.  It will be nice to have something different.  Have been looking at the same things for years.

I slept a long time last night and feel much better today.  Still not 100% but am getting there.

Wednesday, May 32

Most of the rest of the trip focused on Albuquerque.  We took the tram to the top of Sandia Peak and walked the trails for a while.  Sunday afternoon we went to the zoo.  Pretty nice zoo.

We made reservations for the spa at the Sandia Resort and Casino.  When you go in they give you a  card and $25 free money to gamble.  They also enter your name in a drawing.  I turned my free $25 into $54.50.  My friend won $100 in the drawing.  On Monday we went back to the spa and got facials, massages and a foot rub.  We did the steam room and hot tub as well.  Nice and relaxing.  Very nice place.  We ate some of their cheap food and checked into a hotel so we could get up early yesterday to catch our flights home.

Had to get up at 4:30 for my friends 6AM flight so came home really sleepy and worn out.

I got home and was doing my checkbookon line to add up the "damage" and saw that Cowboy had a charge for gas on the debit card.  Apparently they used his card to fill up the car.  Problem is, the card is nowhere to be found.  My sister didn't have it, Cowboy didn't have it, it was not to be found in his clothes, the car or the house.

In addition I had a letter from a charity I had sent a check to and found out it had been stolen along with all the rest of the checks they had on hand.  Went to the bank this morning and we set up a new account and will close the old one once everything clears.  Will have to check it every day to be sure nothing shows up.  We also cancelled Cowboy's debit card and his credit card.  Both are missing.  Now I have to go through the pain of changing a whole bunch of automatic deposits and withdrawals.  I will have my work cut out for me tomorrow.  I guess I should not have let him keep them in his wallet but I knew it made him feel better to continue to carry things.  He has $30 in his wallet and his car keys but he never has any reason to use them.  It just helps him feel more normal.

I think if I want a quiet peaceful restful vacation will have to go somewhere quiet by myself.  I had fun but I did not come home rested.  I also came home with a bunch of purchases, some beautiful earrings, a bracelet and a beaded necklace.  Also a couple of skirts.  Forgot my hat.  It has now been officially adopted by my sister ( I left it in her car).

Friday, May 18

I am at my sisters in New Mexico with my friend from Tulsa.  Got here Tues.

On Wed we headed to Las Vegas (New Mexico, not Nevada).  We were looking for a resort with hot springs.  We found the resort was now a private international high school that still allowed people to use the springs and we gamely put on our suits at the visitors center and headed out there.  Turned out to be a disappointment.  The hot mineral water was held in mud and gravel bottomed holes that had concrete around them.  There were maybe 6 or 8 holes spread out with uneven ground, grass and mud around them.  I managed to sink my foot in the mud up to my ankle and my friend had to rescue me.  When we  finally got in the water was verey warm and felt really great.  These hot springs are supposed to be therapeutic.  Dont know about that but it was a hoot.

On Thursday we drove up to Taos.  Lots of tourist shopping, primarily indian goods.  Let the spending begin.  We also drove up to the ski village but it was desserted and everything was closed.  Beautiful scenery and my friend used to ski there so she enjoyed seeing how it had changed.

Today we went to Santa Fe.  Visited a church with a staircase built with no supports and no nails.  Is considered miraculous.  The oldest church in the US is in Santa Fe and we took pictures.  This was followed by more shopping, picture taking, lunch and more shopping and then more shopping.  WE had dinner at Olive Garden and then home.

I have been calling home a couple of times a day and my sister tells me Cowboy is eating and doing OK.  She told yesterday he had not taken a bath and told she has got to insisit he do so.  This morning he finally did.

Saturday, May 12

Wednesday a friend and neighbor and I went shopping.  We got a nice frame for a friend who is moving and then hit some stores.  Had a nice strawberry salad for lunch.  There was a close out sale at a local dress shop.  I picked up two new tops for my trip next week.

I am leaving Tuesday for Sante Fe and Albuquerque for a few days off.  My sister is going to stay with Cowboy.  I am looking forward to having some time without the daily requirements of caring for him.  My sister and I and a friend of mine from years ago hatched this plan last fall and then had to postpone things because Cowboy acquired his staph infection.

Sister is flying here on Monday.  I am flying to New Mexico on Tuesday and meeting a friend from Tulsa where we used to live at the airport.  We are going to use my sister's car and her home and care for her cat while she stays with Cowboy and looks after him.  Hope all works as planned.

I took Cowboy for a ride yesterday and put the top down.  Beautiful weather and beautiful clouds.

Today I concentrated on making sure all the little things around here that needed doing were handled.

Cowboy walked out the front door today and started walking down the street.  Normally he goes out and stands in the driveway and then comes back in.  I gave it a few minutes and when he didn't come back in I went out and found him about a half  block away just walking and enjoying the sunshine.  I really worry he will fall or go too far so never wait more than a few minutes if he goes out the door.  He walks very slowly and can't get far very fast.

Tuesday, May 8

Friday night we went to a neighborhood get together.  It is always fun to see everyone and visit.  Cowboy did really well.  He ate well and when they sang a song he joined right in.  Who knew he knew the words to "Make New Friends".  I had my back to him but my friends and neighbors told me about it.

Sometimes when we are in the car he sings along with the radio.  He loves to listen to old western songs from the fifties and sixties and knows the words to them all.  He will pat his knee and sometimes "air strum" like he is playing the guitar.

Drove three hours Sunday to go to a birthday party.   I think the last time I was in Chuck E Cheese the birthday girls father  (my grandson) was about 8.  I can wait that many years again to visit.   That would be about 20 years.

We spent three hours eating pizza, birthday cake and watching the kids play.  The place was packed with little kids running around.  Noisy !  It was a good time but the benches sure are hard.  Had a back ache again coming home.

Cowboy did well but yesterday he was tired and he slept a lot.  I think I am pressing my luck with all the social activities but they tell me it is good for Cowboy and I know it is good for me.  He almost fell going up the steps at our grandsons house.  I don't like steps.

As of this evening the housework is done, dinner is over and I have printed about a million pictures plus emailed about a million more.  A quiet day.

It rained all day today.  Tomorrow is my day out.  Hope we don't get wet, although we need the rain.

Friday, May 4

Busy week.  Cowboy's daughter was here and we had a nice time.  Ate out quite a  bit and she even got in a nap one day.  She brought me a kazillion eggs and they are really good.  She raises chickens and othere animals.

On Monday we went to find a Harley Davidson store so she could get her hubby some Tshirts.  There was a terrible wreck on the interstate so we took another route and still ran into a traffic backup at the interchange.  I had never driven up a ramp the wrong way before but we did it Monday (a lot of cars were doing the same) so off we went on a farm to market road and we got there.  One good use for a smart phone with maps.

On Wednesday while Marsha was here I went to lunch with some friends as a farewell to a friend who is moving.  We ate at a nice restaurant and shopped til we dropped.  Good time.  I bought a leather jacket that was originally $88 for $22.   Won't be able to wear it until next fall but couldn't pass it up.

Caught up on bills and correspondence  yesterday and played around with the pictures we took Wednesday.

Cowboy is doing well.  He is eating well, resting well and is in a good humor.  Today I am going to get him out and get him on his feet for a bit.  This evening we are going to a neighborhood pot luck.  (I made deviled eggs this morning with some of my stash).
