Tuesday, May 19

I went to see Cowboy yesterday.  There was some excitement in Waco.  A bunch of motorcycle gangs had a big fight and the authorities were called.  170 arrested, 8 killed and 18 wounded.  The restaurant where it happened is right along the interstate.  There were more police cars and newspeople  than you can imagine.  Slow going through Waco.

Cowboy was laying down when I got there.  Unusual for him in the middle of the morning.  It was warm and really humid outside but we went out for a little while and then sat inside for awhile.  I then realized I had meant to put my car keys in my pocket but they were not there.  I seem to do this every few years.  I left my purse in the car and put the keys in my purse instead of my pocket.  A call to AAA brought help and I was on my way.  Talk about feeling foolish.

One of the girls at the home, we call her Yo Yo, talked me to me for a while and we decided to change Cowboy's bath to the morning.  She said she doesn't think the night staff is bathing him as often as they are scheduled to.  He really likes her and she looks after him.  Most of the staff is really good.  I clipped his nails for him and we washed his teeth and dentures really good and he had a shave.  He seemed to be very chipper.

This morning I got up and went and had a manicure and went looking for batteries for a couple of watches.  I then went to WalMart.  I was needing bins for all the pool toys we seem to collect so I can corral them.

It was raining when I got home and I needed to take the pup out.  She does not like water and rain!  When we came in the mud came with us.  It is supposed to rain all week.  At least the lakes are filling up nicely.  The problem is the yard is almost like a small lake.

Friday, May 15

I know, I know.  Every two weeks is not enough.  I am good but have been busy.  I went to see Cowboy Monday and again yesterday.  He is cheerful and talks constantly about the birds and the squirrels.  I think I am going to have to take seed every visit.  They are hungry critters.

I was in New York for a visit with my daughter from the 5th to the 10th  She is really into quilting now and has made some really beautiful quilts.  She also gardens and I watched her hubby carry in two trailer loads of soil in preparation.  He is a really good guy.

The weather was perfect, about 80.  Of course they were complaining about it being hot for this time of year.

They have three cats and two dogs.  One is a recently acquired border collie.  He is beautiful to watch leap into the air and fetch a frizby or a ball.  I had a great time.  Also got to visit with my granddaughter and her little son who is 5.  Did some shopping although I need absolutely nothing.  Came home with a couple of Tshirts and a pair of shoes and some earrings.

Cowboy was saying yesterday, "you see that guy over there?  He has on my new jeans."  A check with staff told me that wasn't the case but he believes it just the same.  Charlie had lunch with us again.  He and Cowboy seem to hang out a lot.

It has been raining and raining and raining and everything is soaked outside.  We are no longer in drought here which is good but I am ready for some sunshine.

Today is a rare day with little to do.  Perhaps I will just do nothing.

Friday, May 1

I think this is the longest I have gone without posting.  I am sorry.  I think I am growing weary of trying to post on a schedule that others may expect.

I picked up our little dog "Sheba" and kept her for about 10 days.  She is the cutest thing and a joy to have around but unfortunately I was never able to get to the point where she and my daughters dog liked each other.  The boxer pup was sure the thing to do was to jump and lunge at Sheba and she was terrified of the much larger dig,  She just wants to play.  OK, I will just keep then apart.  We had indoors, we had outdoors we we had the crates.  Unfortunately, it rained a lot the  last few days so that eliminated outdoors.  It was a Mexican hat dance to keep them apart and happy.  I don't think I am likely to do this again.  They are both wonderful one on one but a nightmare to manage together.  The nights were the worst.  They both thought they should sleep with me.

I took Sheba home on the 27th.  She was very glad to be home with her "Mommy" and I was relieved to not worry about her any more.  But now I miss her.

I had visited Cowboy on the 25th and we hung some suet for the birds.  I brought some more bird seed recently but it was all gone.  This could get expensive if we need a 10 pound bag of bird seed every time I visit.  I went again on the 28th.  He is definitely feeling more chipper.

I have now officially finished all the work I had planned for the house.  Yeah !!  I even have the grandfather  clock fixed.

I went to see Cowboy today.  He was in good spirits.  I took him two new pair of jeans and three new shirts. He was pleased.  We had a catfish lunch and watch a show about the Texas Rangers.  A good visit.

He has a eating companion named Charlie.  He seems so normal until you realize everything he tells you is from sometime in the past and after a few visits you find he is repeating himself on some subjects.  Despite that, he is a pleasant man and easy to talk to.  I think Cowboy likes him.

The drive was a challenge today.  Terrible amount of traffic.  Sometimes there seems to be no logic to it.

The good news.....I am feeling much better.....Cowboy is feeling more cheerful.  The dogs are where they want to be.  The house is done.

I am going to visit my older daughter next week that lives in upstate New York.  The change of scene will be good for me.  Her birthday is next week.  She will be 52.  Makes me feel kind of old.
